Spring celebrated by the presentation of awards and scholarships
Each year, the firm enthusiastically renews its activities in support of the next generation. Contributing to the training of new generations of architects, technologists, and architectural designers has been a priority for the firm for several decades. Through an integration and mentoring program, the team supports aspiring architects in the steps leading to obtaining their professional license, trains a continuous stream of new recruits, and offers a stimulating career within the firm. As part of its commitment to college and university architecture programs in Quebec, Jodoin Lamarre Pratte architectes is also a partner in several events and offers scholarships.
Jodoin Lamarre Pratte architectes’ Bourse voyage + technique (Travel + Technical Grant)
It was therefore during the Graduation Exhibition of the Faculté de l'aménagement (Faculty of Environmental Design) at the University of Montreal (EFFA) and the Master’s Graduates in Architecture Exhibition at Laval University (ExFA) that we awarded the Jodoin Lamarre Pratte architectes Bourse voyage + technique (Travel + Technical Grant) to Maria Moreno Ramirez and Victor Demers, two master’s students in architecture.
Created in 2024 at the School of Architecture at Laval University, and offered since 2002 at the School of Architecture at the University of Montreal, the Jodoin Lamarre Pratte architectes Bourse voyage + technique emphasizes the importance of travel to an architect’s education and of exploration to the development of critical thinking and constructive strategies in architectural design.
In response to social and economic inequalities, Maria Moreno Ramirez proposes Vers une architecture féministe : repenser l’habitat collectif pour une ville inclusive (Towards Feminist Architecture: Rethinking Collective Housing for an Inclusive City) in order to deepen her understanding of the impact of architecture on urban issues such as access to housing or the integration of vulnerable communities, the role of place for women and their experience in the city, and gender inequalities in urban areas that are dependent on the design and occupation of spaces, both interior and exterior. Her travel project is organized in Brussels and Barcelona, two cities with committed and innovative practices in response to gender inequalities.
Victor Demers’ travel project, Cultures constructives : exploration des techniques bio / géosourcées en France et en Suisse (Constructive Cultures: Exploring Bio/Geo-Sourced Techniques in France and Switzerland), aims to document local initiatives at the intersection of craftsmanship and industry, whether through a sensitive approach to materials, a close relationship with builders, or an analysis of the entire architectural project cycle.
Recognition of training in environmental design
For the second year, Jodoin Lamarre Pratte architectes presented an award and a scholarship at the Annuel de design, the exhibition showcasing the work of graduating students from the UQAM School of Design. A scholarship for excellence was awarded to Marek Doucet, the student with the best performance in the Design and Construction course of the Bachelor of Environmental Design program. The Award of Excellence in Design was presented to Félix Blanc-Lehoux and Mathieu Meunier, also graduates of the same program, for their project Le phare, résidence artistique (The Lighthouse, Artist Residency).
Valuing technical excellence
Jodoin Lamarre Pratte architectes is recognized for the rigor demonstrated by its professionals and the depth of their technical knowledge, factors which are greatly valued by the firm. As a result, scholarships for excellence were awarded to Ramata Yaye Wann and Véronique Dion, graduating students in Architectural Technology at Cégep du Vieux-Montréal and Cégep de Saint-Laurent, for the quality of the technical documentation accompanying their end-of-year projects.
Academic merit
To mark its 65th anniversary in 2023, the firm created a scholarship program in architecture at McGill University. Awarded on the basis of academic merit by the Faculty of Engineering, the scholarships are primarily intended for students who have graduated from Quebec universities with a bachelor’s degree and are entering or are enrolled in the Master of Architecture – Professional program. The winners will be selected during the summer of 2025.
Finally, as announced at the end of March, the firm renewed its support—as an associate partner in the selection and presentation of the jury’s 1st prize—for the 33rd edition of the exhibition-auction L’Objet, organized by architecture students at Laval University. The prize was awarded to Louis Bourdages for La Relique – Signet d’ambiance, an object created in collaboration with Daphnée Cantin.
Once again, congratulations to this promising new generation!
