Côte-Vertu station, Montreal metro
Like influent architects of the modern era, Jodoin Lamarre Pratte architectes was entrusted with the mandate to build a station for the Montreal metro. The Côte-Vertu station on the orange line was open on October 27, 1986. The firm used the 17,7 meters depth from the platform to the ground to create a monumental passage between the kiosks and the tunnel. The architectural shapes symbolize fluidity of motion and circulations: large semi circles atop the mezzanine and transept, and hemicycles on the floor indicating the original position of the train doors. The surface covers are terracotta, sandstone and granite. The main kiosk with strong angular shapes creates a light well illuminating the long staircase. A second kiosk reuses the archetype of a house in a post-modern language.
