Exemplary Projects
Annual AAPPQ selection
Each year, the Association des Architectes en pratique privée du Québec (AAPPQ) selects, from among its members’ submissions, the 25 projects that highlight the importance of investing in architectural quality and it presents them in the annual Manuel de référence (now called Panorama). We are delighted to announce that both of our submitted projects were selected by the 2023 committee: The Quebec City Integrated Cancer Treatment Centre and the Metamorphosis of the Montréal Insectarium.
“By using or revalorizing certain materials, preserving heritage, or successfully integrating principles of sustainable development and universal accessibility, the selected projects embody this year’s theme: The socio-ecological transition at the core of architecture. They demonstrate approaches or techniques that promote the wellbeing of all, while respecting the environment and aligning with available resources.”
After 43 print editions, the AAPPQ Manuel de référence was relaunched as the digital magazine Panorama in 2023.
Exemplary Montréal industrial project shows best practices in design and architectural quality
Located opposite the Sûreté du Québec headquarters, in a predominantly residential area of the Sainte-Marie district in Montréal, the Hydro-Québec 315/25-kV De Lorimier Substation is one of 35 exemplary projects selected by the Bureau du design de la Ville de Montréal to illustrate best practices for design and architectural quality in industrial buildings.
"The Handbooks of Best Practices for Design and Architecture Quality for Industrial Sites provide concrete solution avenues to inspire action and guide exchanges among companies, promoters and decision-makers. With the Handbooks, the City hopes to prompt greater contributions from industrial projects and sites in implementing the Montréal 2030 Agenda for Quality and Exemplarity in Design and Architecture and delivering on the aspirations stated in the Montréal 2030 Future Vision as well as the City’s other plans and policies, including the City Vision (Projet de ville) and the 2020–2030 Climate Plan."
