Délégation aux Journées de l’architecture en santé à Bruxelles
This week, architects Michel Broz, Julie Boucher, Lucie Bégin, Robert Sindon, and Roxanne Rochette attended the Journées de l’architecture en santé (Healthcare Architecture Days) in Brussels, where the new hospital complex in Quebec City—including the integrated cancer treatment centre for which Jodoin Lamarre Pratte architectes led the design—, and the Carole and Andrew Harper Psychiatry Inpatient Unit at the Montreal’s Jewish General Hospital were presented.
This first Belgian edition of the Journées de l’architecture en santé (JAS) took place in the heart of Brussels, at the magnificent Maison de la Poste. As described by the event organizers, the JAS is a not-to-be-missed professional gathering for meeting and exchanging ideas with the most experienced architectural designers dedicated to the healthcare and medico-social sectors. The event foregrounds hospital design in a context where stakeholders worldwide are working to modernize health infrastructure and integrate evolving techniques and technologies.
As part of this congress, the members of our healthcare projects team were able to visit the New Jules Bordet Institute an integrated, multidisciplinary centre dedicated to treating cancer patients, by Brunet Saunier (Paris) and ARCHi2OOO (Brussels). The team also took advantage of free time to explore the city’s rich architecture, such as the new headquarters of the BNP Paribas Fortis bank by Baumschlager Eberle Architekten (Austria), Styfhals & Partners (Belgium), and Jaspers-Eyers (Belgium); the administrative headquarters of Bruxelles Environnement by cepezed (Delft); or the Musical Instruments Museum, located in the Old England buildings that date from 1774 (by Barnabé Guimard) and 1899 (by Paul Saintenoy, one of the most beautiful Art Nouveau buildings in Brussels).
