40 years with Jodoin Lamarre Pratte architectes
Jodoin Lamarre Pratte architectes is delighted and proud to celebrate its two most senior members Serge Breton and Germain Paradis, who mark their 40th anniversaries with the team this year. The firm values depth of knowledge and complementary expertise, and so we enthusiastically salute the work of these two highly experienced individuals who contribute greatly to training the next generation and to the richness of the team.
Serge Breton, an architectural technologist specialized in writing specifications, first worked for the firm from 1975 to 1997, returning permanently as of March 27, 2006. The architectural specifications, which accompany the drawings, is the document that communicates all necessary information for constructing a project. It details the materials, how they are to be assembled, and the obligations of each party to the construction contract. It’s a job of meticulously coordination that demands immense rigour, organization, and curiosity. With great attention to detail, Serge works closely with the design and execution teams to ensure the right materials are used and correctly applied.
Furthermore, throughout his career Serge has been influential in developing and implementing efficient, standardized working tools. He has worked on an extensive number of projects, such as the restoration of the Notre-Dame du Sacré-Cœur chapel, Côte-des-Neiges Cultural Centre and Library, the Université du Québec à Montréal campus, Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, the Complex of the mother house of the Sœurs de la présentation de Marie in Saint-Hyacinthe, HEC Montréal, the Université de Sherbrooke Campus in Longueuil, Raymond-Lévesque Library, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts’ Michal and Renata Hornstein Pavilion for Peace, the remodelling of the Business Development Bank of Canada’s headquarters (LEED Gold), Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital’s Raymond-Barcelo Integrated Dialysis Centre, the expansion and modernization of the Montreal Heart Institute, École secondaire de la Nouvelle-Ère in Gatineau, and the conversion of UQAM’s Marie-Gérin-Lajoie Hall into multimedia studios for the cinema program.
Germain Paradis has been with Jodoin Lamarre Pratte architectes since June 18, 1984. He has been Technical Director since 2022, previously serving as workshop and execution team leader and technical advisor for numerous building envelope projects, as well as coordinating plans and specifications for the firm’s major projects. He is a key reference for designing building envelopes, and applies his extensive technical knowledge, organizational skills, and 52 years of experience to large-scale, highly complex projects.
During his career, he was involved in the construction of the Université du Québec à Montréal Campus, HEC Montréal, McGill University’s Wong Pavilion, the Dorval Air Navigation Control Centre, the facilities for the 11th FINA World Championships at the Île Sainte-Hélène Aquatic Complex, the Université de Sherbrooke Campus in Longueuil, the Veterinary Diagnostics and Epidemiological Surveillance Complex of Quebec, the Centre of Excellence for Cellular Therapy at Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont, Collège Saint-Louis, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts’ Michal and Renata Hornstein Pavilion for Peace, the Metamorphosis of the Montréal Insectarium, and the expansion and modernization of the Montreal Heart Institute. Germain is also well acquainted with the real estate assets of the Montréal-Trudeau International Airport, having completed numerous projects, including the major 1999–2005 airport expansion, and participated in the design of the future REM station—a major challenge! Germain is one of Quebec’s leading experts in building envelope construction, and backed by this extensive experience he is always available to advise and train the next generation.
On behalf of the whole team, Serge and Germain, thank you, and happy anniversary with the firm!
